Wednesday, May 7, 2008DOWNTOWN RENTAL REHABILITATION The Human Development Commission invites individuals to an informational meeting on Downtown Rental Rehabilitation. The program is designed the revitalize downtown neighborhoods by assisting landlords with health, safety and energy conservation measures. The meeting will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. May 7 at Vassar City Hall in the lower level conference room. Please R.S.V.P to Cari at (989) 672-1791 by May 5. SUMMER BALL REGISTRATION The Vassar Recreation Department will be hosting its first summer ball registration meeting. Registration is for Tee-ball. Soccer, Youth Softball, etc. This first of two meetings will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 13 in the Central School Cafeteria. Any parents wishing to register their child in one of the summer ball programs should plan to attend the meeting. If unable to attend, contact Dan Johnson at (989) 823-2525 in the evenings. PLASTIC PASTIME The Frankenmuth Area Christian Women’s Club ‘Plastic Pastime’ Luncheon will be held from 12 to 1:45 p.m. May 13 at Zehnder’s Restaurant in Frankenmuth. COUNTRY MUSIC JAMBOREE Ed and Vickie’s Country Music Jamboree will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on the second Sunday of each month May through November at the Forest Township Hall, 130 E. Main St., in Otisville. Musicians welcome to bring instruments. Admission is $4 and proceeds go to needy children at Christmas. For further information, call Vickie at (810) 793-6068. THIRD FRIDAY DINNER Vassar First United Methodist Church will host their monthly third Friday dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. May 16. The menu will include Barbequed Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, coleslaw, fresh rolls, pie and beverages. A free will offering will be accepted. CANDLE LIGHTING CEREMONY The Vassar Veteran’s Military Support Group invite families and friends of veterans and active service personnel to attend a Candle Lighting Ceremony to honor those who have been, or are still in the service. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. May 17 at Vassar Townsend North Pavilion. PETUNIA PLANTING Members of Keep Vassar Beautiful will hold their annual petunia planting May 17. Individuals may join in the planning beginning at 9 a.m. at the park. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m. at the park. RIVERFEST COMMITTEE The Riverfest committee will meet at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Bullard Sanford Memorial Library. Community members are encouraged to come and share ideas for the 2008 Riverfest. BAND PLAYS The “Cass River Country and Gospel Band” will be in the Dykhouse Room at the Bullard Sanford Memorial Library on the last Friday of each month from 4 to 6 p.m. The band will also perform from 5 to 7 p.m. each Thursday at Fritz’s Restaurant in Richville.
